    Joseph VANCE was son of Patrick and Elizabeth (Houston) VANCE, of Knox Co. TN. He married Eliza Greer, b. 6 Jul 1799, VA, on 29 Dec. 1819 in Knox Co. TN.
    Children included 2 daugh's: Eliza Jane,& Mary Melinda; 4 sons: Vaniah, George P., John, and Joseph Vance. He with his wife, Eliza and children, moved over mountains to Kentucky, before 1840, where he bought two tracts of land, one, 185 acres near Old Buck Creek, east of Hwy 431, in Daviss Co., then about two yrs later bought a 113-acre parcel nearby. He was a blacksmith and farmer. (Info from LDS and family researchers, including, Anna Lois Beumal, who has extensive list of Vances of McLean Co. KY.)
