Information on Joseph McKee

Joseph McKee, son of Robert and Elizabeth McKee. Sr., was born in 1777 and died in 1852 in Frederick County. Joseph married Elizabeth Reid, daughter of Jeremiah and Elizabeth (McMahon) Reid, on Feb. 5, 1799. He was a farmer. Joseph converted his house into an ordinary (tavern) during the 1830s when the Northwest Turnpike opened for travel. After his wife Elizabeth died, Joseph lived with his children who remained on Timber Ridge. Joseph and Elizabeth were buried at Bethel Methodist Church, Trone, Frederick County, in graves without inscriptions of vital dates. According to verbal tradition, they had nine daughters and four sons. After analyzing the U.S. censuses, it appears there were nine children - four boys and five girls.
