Joseph Haines was baptised on 11th September 1825 at Buckland in Gloucestershire, son of Elizabeth Haines, formerly King, and her husband Thomas Haines, a cow doctor. Joseph's mother died either giving birth to Joseph or shortly afterwards; she had been buried the month before he was baptised. Joseph's father Thomas died in 1838 when Joseph was only 13 years old. The 1841 census finds Joseph living with his older brother John at Laverton in the parish of Buckland. Joseph has yet to be researched after 1841.
