Personal History

Joseph Copley, son of Joseph Copley (formerly Joseph Moyle before 1768, who was created a baronet in 1778) of Southampton, Hampshire,[4] was born about 1769.[3][4]

Joseph matriculated from Christ Church, Oxford, on 23 October 1786, then aged 17 years.[4]

Upon the death of his brother, Lionel, on 4 March 1806, Joseph succeeded to the Baronetcy (3rd, created 1778).

On 21 May 1799, in the parish of St Marylebone, Middlesex, England, Joseph Copley Esq. of the parish of St George, Hanover Square, and the Rt. Hon. Lady Cecil Hamilton were married by licence by the curate, Benj. Lawrence, in the presence of R. Onslow, L. Copley, and Rachel Hamilton. It was stated that Lady Hamilton's marriage with the Most Hon. John James Marquess of Abercorn had been dissolved by Act of Parliament.

Death and Probate

Joseph died on 21 May 1838 at Whitehall yard[1] (registered in the district of Westminster), in his 70th year.[3]

Administration of his will dated 12 July 1837, with one codicil annexed, was granted on 2 November 1838.[2]
