    Enlisted as 1st Lieut & Asst. Surgeon, 2 Oct 1861, 11th Texas Cavalry, at Fort Reeves. He had already been an Acting Surgeon at Pea Ridge the previous March, however. Appointed Surgeon, 12 Mar 1862. Continued in the field, in Kentucky and elsewhere, to the end of the war.
