Located on West Washington Street in Clarksville, seat of Red River County, and in use continually since the 1830s. Many early settlers are buried here, including James Clark, founder of Clarksville. Part of the present cemetery originally constituted the old "Baptist Cemetery" and another part is often referred as "Confederate Cemetery." There are presently about 1,350 burials, the earliest being that of Benjamin Clark, father of James Clark and a Revolutionary War veteran, who followed his son to Texas in 1826 and died Feb 1838.
