John Parris' will, in advanced age--To wife Hannah; to sons, Thomas and George (has heretofore given military lands in Ohio); daughter, Jane Hudson; daughter, Margaret Henderson; daughters, Hannah and Elizabeth Parris; other daughters have been provided for at marriage; daughters, Mary Hudson, Martha Dennison, Jane Hudson, Margaret Henderson, Hannah and Elizabeth Parris; testator's land in Stokes County, N. C., to be sold; to son, John; son, Alexander, to each grandchild named after testator, i. e., John, son of Thomas; John, son of George; John, son of Charles Hudson. Executors, son John and wife Hannah. Teste: Vincent Tapp, Robt. Henderson. Proved, 26th September, 1814. Executors qualify.

  • Vol. 1 - MARCH, 1765 (B). - Patrick Calhoun vs. Parris and Adams.--John Parris and George Adams. Bond to James Calhoun, of Augusta, 9th September, 1754. Adams pleads that he was 20 years and 9 months old when bond was given. Agnes Adams, mother of George, testifies that he was 30 years old Christmas, 1763. She sent him from Pennsylvania to Virginia and wrote letters to her friends at Red Creek.

  • Vol. 1 - AUGUST 22, 1781. - (350) Wm. Carrol, aged 14 years, to be bound to John Paris.
  • Page 326.--13th March, 1787. William Parrus' will--To my beloved (wife?) Janet (and daughter Elizabeth while in her age); to son, John, £10, to be paid by John's brother, Andrew; to daughter, Elizabeth; to son, Andrew, eldest son, executor. Executrix, wife Janet. Teste: James Henry, Samuel Carson, Mathew Taylor. Proved, 15th February, 1791 (executors qualify), by Henry and Carson.
  • Page 69.--17th April, 1788. James Culbertson's will--(Sets out transactions with Maj. Robt. Burns and Isabella Burns in 1782 and since showing indebtedness to him); also that out of his 4,000 acres to which he is entitled as Captain in the Virginia Line, he has sold 1,000 acres to Hugh Donaho, lying near Mouth of Miami; also Thomas Johnston, of Louisa, is to have 800 acres; Richard Bruce, of Albemarle, owes him £4 balance for a watch, &c., after deducting £3.0.0 allowed him to pay his brother, George Bruce. His accounts for services as Commissary and Quarter Master and Forage Master to Polaski's Legion (vouchers in hands of Capt. Geo. Rice (Brice) have not been paid. Also for services as issuing Commissary for the Prisoners stationed at Staunton of Burgoyne's Army (also in hands of Capt. Geo. Brice) also unsettled. Capt. Wm. Long owes £60 for money lent and other transactions in 1776. Robert Draffors (ons), of Charlottesville; Geo. Divers, of Albemarle: Wm. Holliday, of Winchester; Col. Thomas Rell and Mrs. Brice's claim for washing which she has charged to Robert Gamble to be paid. Then all debts to be paid (after deducting his reasonable wages as storekeeper for Gamble; John North). John Parris to be allowed 500 acres military lands for making clothes. Estate to be divided between brothers and sisters, viz: Robert Culbertson, Molly, Anne, and Margaret. Executors, brother Robert Culbertson, of Sherman's Valley, Penna.; Thomas Bell, Anthony Mustoe, Robert Gamble. Teste: Alex. St. Clair, Hugh McDowell, John Boys. Proved, 17th June, 1788. Anthony Mustoe qualifies.

  • Vol. 2 - Marriage Bond in Augusta County, VA - 1800--July 8, Thomas Parris and Charles Hudson, surety. Thomas Parris, son of John Parris, and Mary Hudson, daughter of George Hudson, deceased, and of age.
  • Vol. 2 - Randolph's administrator vs. Kenny et alias--O. S. 300; N. S. 107 -- Bill, 20th July, 1812, by William Randolph of Wilton. On 7th April, 1808. he sold to Chesley Kinney 331 acres in Augusta. Kinney claims deficiency. In 1747 Robert McClenachan sold said tract to David Stuart, who sold 57 acres to James Miller 20th August, 1748, yet on 14th February, 1763, sold the whole tract to John Miller. James Miller on 1st August, 1754, sold the 57 acres to Jones Henderson, who sold to John Parris 18th August, 1778. John Miller conveyed whole 331 acres to orator 18th October, 1784. David died, testate, in Augusta, leaving son John, now of Greenbrier; daughter Sebiny, alias Tibbey, alias Tabitha Stuart; daughter Elizabeth, who married Richard Woods of Albemarle, by whom she had 3 sons, William, George and Richard Woods; stepdaughter, Mary Pall. Sebiny Stuart married Samuel Williams of Greenbrier, by whom she had a son Richard and a daughter ____, who married Thomas Creigh of Greenbrier. Mary Pall left one child, a daughter, Mary, who married Cornelius Maupin and lives in Albemarle. John Miller died, intestate, leaving children, viz: Patrick, James and Sarah Miller. Sarah married Joseph Henderson of Augusta and had children, viz: John, Robert, Joseph, William, Sally, Jane, who married Alexander Buchanan, and Mary, who married Robert Morrison. Patrick and James Miller live in Bath. John and James Miller were brothers. John Stuart has a son Lewis Stuart. John Young deposes, in Augusta, 15th June, 1818, he knew John and James Miller. James was son of John. Deponent is 81 years old last March. He came to this country when 4 years old and has lived 6 miles from Staunton ever since. He was grown when he knew the Millers. Deponent is son of Hugh Young, who was security for Randal Lockhart, deputy sheriff, who defaulted in failing to return a writ of election and suit was brought. 15th June, 1818, William Robertson deposes, in Augusta, David Stuart's children and widow lived with Gen. George Mathews, who married a stepdaughter of David's; daughter of Mrs. Stuart, deponent. Captain is rising 70 years.
