Last Will and Testament of John Painter Senior, Written March 11, 1837, Probated May, 1837
The Last Will and Testament of John Painter Sr. In the name of God, amen. I, John Painter of the County of Botetourt, and State of Virginia, being of sound mind and memory, through becoming stricken with age and infirm, do hereby make this my Last Will and Testament.
First, I will my body to be interred indecent burial and soul to the great and wise God (who) gave it. My will and request is that all my just debts shall be paid.
I will to my oldest son, Conrad Painter the sum of One Dollar, and to my son, Levi or his heirs, One Dollar, and to my son James, One Dollar, and to my son William the sum of One Dollar, and to my son Peter or his heirs, the sum of One Dollar, and to my son Barney One Dollar and to my daughter Elizabeth, now Elizabeth White, the sum of One Dollar and to my daughter Susan, now Susan Jones, the sum of One Dollar, and to my daughter Catherine, now Catherine Roberson, the sum of One Dollar, and to my son George, the sum of One Dollar and to my son Morgan, the sum of One Dollar.
