Norris, John - entered service 1777 in Fauquier County, Virginia, where born on 7/4/1760; resided there after Revolutionary War to 1807 when moved to Lewis County, Virginia, where granted Pension in 1833; Minter Bailey age 70 & John Bailey made affidavit then there on soldier's Revolutionary War service per County Justice of the Peace William Powers; soldier died 2/12/1836; married 3/26/1782 to Mary Jones (Marriage Bond 3/25/1782 signed by William Tomlin, witnessed by H. Brooke) in Fauquier County, virginia, per certificate in 1840 by that County Court Clerk Alexander J. Marshall; widow granted Pension age 75 in Fauquier County, Virginia in 1839; daughter mentioned but not named in 1840; widow's sister Frances was wife of John Bailey made affidavit 1840 in Lewis County, Virginia that she attended soldier's marriage, performed by Reverend James Craig; County Justice of the Peace 1840 in Lewis County, Virginia was James M. Camp & County Clerk of Court was John Talbott; query letter in file 1888 from grandson John Bassel (on mother's side) in Clarksburg, West Virginia, attorney-at-law, says his mother died at age 87, soldier had 10 children, one of whom was living in 1888 at age 92; query letter in file in 1930 from descendant Tessie L. Bennett, Ontario, California, who was also a descendant of Revolutionary War soldier William Bennett (married Barbara) of Pendleton County, West Virginia. F-W19930, R1826.
