John Moberley, son of Edward Moberley, Sr. and Susannah DeRuel, received a land grant of 50 acres on Broad River, 17 Jan 1770, Book 18, p. 475. There was another grant of 118 acres to "John Mobley", Craven county, 14 Apr 1773, Bk No. 18, p. 474. There was a John Moberley shown on the Lunenberg Tithe list but this may have been his Uncle or a cousin.
Rev. War records show two veterans named John Moberley. One served in the mounted Militia: "John Moberley (from Stubs to Indents, Vol. Y, Indent 388) 30 days services in Capt. Thomas Shannon's Regt. of Mounted Militia, 21 Nov 1781. 'This is to certify that the above 30 days duty was done by John Moberley in my Company of Mounted Militia in the time specified above.' signed Thos. Shannon, Captain." "South Carolina, Camden Dist., 'Personally appeared before me, Burr Harrison, Esqu., Justice of the Peace for Camden District, and made oath . . . . dated 1785.' Signed Bur Harrison, John Moberly. 30 days duty as private horseman in Capt. Thos. Shannon's Co., from 21st Nov. to 22nd Dec.1781."
The other record of a John Moberley published in Book Q, p. 175, "Stubbs to Indents": '25 days Militia duty 1782 at Four Holes Bridge, Capt. Grays Company. Signed John Moberley.'
John Moberley was not listed on the 1790 Census of Camden-Fairfield, SC. There is nothing in the probate records to indicate his decease. There were several land grants to a John Mobley after the 1790s in 96th Dist., South Carolina
15 Jan 1823 - William Mobley and Drusilla his wife to John Feaster, Sr. and Jacob Feaster "the plantation where I now live originally granted to William Hill and Edward Mobley and from them conveyed to the said William Mobley."
