Samuel Moberley, Senior, son of Edward Moberley Senior, came to Fairfield County (then Craven) with others of his family in the late 1750s. He received several land grants as follows:
    1760, 1/4, Craven County, 100 acres, Book 11, p. 14
    1765, 7/1, 50 acres, Book 8, p. 184
    1773, 2/12, Craven County, 50 acres, Book 18, p. 476
    1790, 12/6, Camden County (Little R.), 34 acres, Book 28, p. 130
    1790, 12/6, Camden County (Reedy R.), 65 acres, Book 28, p. 129

Samuel lived at his plantation on the south fork of Little River near the land of Edward Moberley, Sr., John Benjamin and William Moberly. He raised a large family, four boys and eight girls living to maturity. He fought in the Revolution and his record is as follows:
From Stubs to Indents, Book O, p. 212, Env. 5295 - Samuel Moberley . . ."for service done at Howell's Ferry under Capt. Thomas Parrot." signed Samuel Moberly. He also furnished a horse for the Patriot Militia.
The following certificate is from the SC historical Comm., Columbia, SC - "this is to certify that the records of this department show that Samuel Moberley was a member of the militia forces of South Carolina embodied in Winn's Regiment, and that we have pay records of two tours of duty performed by him in 1781; one of eight days at Howell's Ferry on the Congaree River July or August, and four more days taking dispatches thence to Colonel William Hill on the Catawba River, and another of 69 days as Quartermaster at the post at Orangeburgh, ending in December. We also have records to show that he furnished a substitute for the month of June 1782, when drafted for duty at the Four Holes post." Signed A. S. Salley Sec. Sept. 11, 1941. According to Salley, Samuel is listed in "Stubs to Indents" as "Private Quartermaster and Riding Express." The Fairfield County records show the following:

14 May, 1781 - Samuel Mobley, planter to Job Meador. Whereas a grant bearing date 24 Jan 1770 was made to Thomas Meador for a tract containing 200 acres in Fairfield Co. on a branch of Beaver Creek and whereas 160 acres of it was conveyed from said Thomas Meadors to s.
