- 28 Jan 1778; Land Entry Book, Burke County, NC: No. 20: John McDowell enters six hundred and forty acres of land in Burke County on both sides of Sevanens River above Nobles Cabbin including Some Logs cut by Nicholas Edonton this 28th Day of Jan'ry 1778. [Signed] John McDowell.
- 29 Jan 1778; Land Entry Book, Burke County, NC: No. 104. John McDowell enters in Burke County 640 acres of land lying on the South fork of Cane river the first large Crabb tree bottom shore Capt. Winslows Light horse Camped as they came Round the Black Mountain including an old Camping place for Complement. January 29th 1778. [Signed] John McDowell.

John McDowell enters in Burke County Six Hundred & forty Acres of Land on the Main South fork of French broad River above Benjamin Davidsons Entry and running up both Sides os Said River and known by the name of the White Walnut bottoms & Great planes Where a Red Oak tree Marked "EMD" on the North West Side of Said River Including both sides of Said River for Complement. Entered Feby. 16th 1778.

John McDowell enters in Burke County 640 Acres of Land lying on French broad River maned the Sugar Loaf Mountain Including one old field where stands a forked tree a Red Oak Marked "EMD" Running along both sides of said River for complement the aforesaid old field and marked tree being on the North West side of the River Returned Feby. 16th 1778.

John McDowell enters in Burke County 640 Acres of Land lying on the Main fork of French Broad River above George Catheys Entry including both Sides of Said River being on large bottom and plains where Stands a tree on the North Side of the River Marked "E.M."
