    HALLSVILLE, Texas - John Klaus, age 82, formerly of Cedar Vale, Kan. died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at his home in Hallsville, Texas. He was born in Avant, Okla. on June 6, 1921 to Fred and Ida (Horn) Klaus. He married Inez Wheeler.

    He served his country during WW II as 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Force as a fighter pilot. After the war, he worked as an asbestos worker. Later in life, he became an ordained deacon in the Baptist Church.

    He is survived by his wife, Inez, of the home, a son, Bill Warnock, Decatur, Texas, a daughter, Shirley Wilson, Longview, Texas, and seven grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita, six brothers and four sisters.

    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2004, at the Wheeler Funeral Home in Cedar Vale, Kan.

    Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2004, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Family will greet friends from 5-6:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Cedar Vale City Cemetery.
