Calvin Coolidge Klause

Calvin Coolidge Klause, 77, of Amarillo died Monday, May 5, 2003.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Jay Roberson officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Klause was born June 14, 1925, and was the 11th of 12 children. He was born in the back woods around Barnsdall, Okla. He joined the Army in 1944 and served in the Philippines during World War II.

He was assigned to a construction battalion that built airstrips as each island was freed during the Pacific Campaign. He returned home after he completed his military service and married Congetta Jean Ward.

He began his work as an industrial asbestos worker with his many brothers. Calvin and Congetta raised three sons together while living the majority of the time in Amarillo.

He will always be remembered as not only a good father, granddad and husband but also as a good man. He was always willing to help in any way possible, whether it be physically or financially.

He cared more about how we were than about himself. We will miss his smile, his laugh and his conversations. Mostly we will miss our dad.

Survivors include three sons, Nick Klause of Blanchard, Okla., Rod Klause of Amarillo and Randy Klause of Helotes; a brother, John Klause of Longview; a sister, Jean Janow of Borger; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
