John and his sister Barbara were brought up by William Sinton, who married their mother after their father was killed while helping Sinton cut down trees . John and Mary kept a tavern at "Moncton Bottoms" near Salisbury, NB. Later he was given a grant of land on the Coverdale River (a branch of the Petitcodiac). The farm was sold in 1835 to John Parkin, another Yorkshire man. When we visited New Brunswick in 2000, Joel Kitchen, a local resident said the "Jaques Tavern" was located on the high ground at the South end of the present Parkin Street in Salisbury. Three sons and four daughters moved to Norwich Twp, Oxford County, in Upper Canada about 1836. John died of "consumption" after a lingering illness.
