Lieut. John Holmes [#25], s/o Samuel Holmes [#13] and first wife Mary Bullard, b. Dorchester South Precinct, now Stoughton, 17 Jun 1702, d. there 26 Dec 1789 [sic, see attach comment], m. (1) Dedham 21 Nov 1727 Keziah Thorpe, m. (2) Stoughton 19 Oct 1758 Elizabeth (Clap) Wentworth.
[Note: clearly the death date given is incorrect, since his administrator was appointed nearly 3 months before this date. Where the date 26 Dec 1789 comes from is not apparent. It is probably merely coincident that it is exactly one month to the day prior to the date given for the inventory, 26 Jan 1790. But even that date is questionable, as this was the date the inventory was sworn to. The inventory was actually taken, and is dated, 14 Nov 1789, about 6 weeks before the incorrect death date.]
