Family stories relate that after his wife, Nell, died in 1941, Stanley disappeared for over 30 years. In 1958 Leslie Holloway and his family were visiting an arm acquaintance (Ben Magor) in Kadina, S.A. Ben told Les that he had heard about a "Stan Holloway" working around the shearing sheds in S.A. The next day Ben located a "Stanley Holloway" and his address on the Millicent electoral roll. On the way home, Les and his family called into a milk bar in Millicent to try to locate the address on the off chance it was his brother. A taxi driver standing in the milkbar overheard the conversation and said "You must mean 'Snow' get in your car and follow me". Les and the family followed the taxi driver to the address and was greeted on the porch by a woman and seven children and sure enough, in the kitchen stood Snow, cooking his favourite (Kangaroo Tail Soup). The rest is history.

No one seems to know why Stan disappeared for so long and why he never made contact with his parents or other family. A sad part to this story is that his parents, John and Emma, died never knowing whether he was alive or dead.

John Stanley had remarried and had had 3 children - the others being from his wife's previous marriage.
