John M Hiestand and Maria Hiestand appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Benton twp., Knox Co., Missouri, enumerated 3 Jun 1880, no children of their own. They have living with them four siblings to John: Jessie, Samuel, Katie and Mary.

In 1900 John's occupation was as a farm laborer at Lee twp., Brown Co., Illinois.
