John William Hatfield, son of Newton Hatfield an Emily Boyd Hatfield, was born February 3, 1890 in Putnam County, Missouri and passed away October 22, 1970 at the Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital in Kirksville, Missouri. John had been in declining health for the past two years. He was 80 years, 7 months and 19 days of age.

John grew to manhood in the Martinstown area where he attended the local schools.

On November 12, 1912 he was united in marriage to Laura Lawson, who preceded him in death in the year of 1944. This union was blessed with four children, two of whom survive.

John and Laura spent their married life on a farm in the Low Ground community.

Besides his wife, Laura, John was preceded in death by two infant daughters, 7 brothers and 1 sister.

On November 12, 1948 he was married to Wilma Young, who survives. They spent their first years together on a farm near Low Ground, moving into Novinger, Mo., the last few years as they found it more convenient with increasing age.

John is survived by his wife Wilma; a daughter, Gladys Lawson and her husband Leslie of Livinonia, Mo.; a son, Leslie Hatfield and wife Winifred, of Novinger, Mo.; a step-son, Howard Young and his wife Vivian of Worthington, Mo.; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 step-grandchildren, and a sister, Mary Terrill of Des Moines, Iowa.

John confessed his faith in Christ many years ago, placing his membership in the Novinger Baptist Church where he was an active member as long as his health permitted, acting as usher for several years. His faith never wavered, only strengthened with the years.

He was a loving husband and father. He will long be remembered for his hearty laugh and jolly disposition, attributes that made him friends where ever he went. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. He leaves a fine heritage for those who follow.

Funeral service was conducted at the Novinger Baptist Church Sunday, October 25, 1970 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Ronald Meldren. Interment was in the Cain-Ford Cemetery under direction of the Husted Funeral Home.
