The family of which the late John Dibert, for many years prominently identified with important business interests of the city of Johnstown, was a representative, was of French origin, the original form of the name being De Bert. This was changed to Dybird when the family took refuge in Holland in order to escape the persecutions inflicted on the Huguenots in the early days of the history of France. The family was transplanted from the Old to the New World by the great-grandfather of John Dibert, whose name was supposed to have been David, who settled first in New York, from whence he removed to Chester county, Pennsylvania, and the name then took the present form of Dibert. ... ----- [NOTE OF CAUTION: Contains likely errors.
