Family tree▼ Facts and Events
ADAM migrated to America in circa 1834. That would make him one of the first Palatines to have arrived in Bucks Township. The St. Peter's Church at Fiat, listed an "Adam Maurer" as one of those "instrumental in organizing the congregation". Fiat was located in the northern half of Bucks Township, and was only the second of two villages in the township. This congregation also listed John and Emanuel Lauer, who have been difficult to identify, as there is almost no Lauer names in these township records. However, there are a number with the Lower spelling, but apparently unrelated to Daniel Lower of adjacent Jefferson Township. Also in the Fiat records were Adam and Gustav Regula (WeRelate pages), and perhaps others who might be found to be related? Could ADAM have possibly had a son Peter, born 1826 in Waldgrehweiler? He was associated with "Renners" church in Bucks Township. As with other Maurer families from Waldgrehweiler, Peter's family was omited from these WeRelate pages because there was no link to any others in these pages. "Renners" (officially St. Paul's) was in the southwest corner of the township, in Section 24, not far from Fiat. The History of Tuscarawas County, Ohio (1884) states that among the first members were ....... Peter Mauerer...... John Mauerer. The church was very close to the Coshocton County line. In 1881, a church member, Anna Elisabeth Maurer was married in her home in Bakersville, just across the line in Coshocton Co. She has not been linked with the various known Maurer families of Tuscarawas County. In circa 1833 German immigration into the area of Bucks Township increased significatly. Most were Palatines. There were other Maurers in the area, who link to these Palatines, but a lot of them were from Switzerland. --White Creek 22:54, 29 December 2012 (EST) References
