Could this JOHN MAURER have been the same John Maurer who was born in Waldgrehweiler in 1817? His date of birth would fit - as the parents were married in 1815 in Waldgrehweiler. Then as now, Waldgrehweiler was a very tiny village. Perhaps 300 souls?

Besides being born in Waldgrehweiler, the John Maurer born 1817 was also a resident of Bucks Township, in Tuscarawas County when the family was enumerated in the 1860 Federal Census. In 1870 the family was enumerated in Jefferson Township.

The 1817 John Maurer had children who were confirmed in Zion's Congregation. After John and his wife, Philipine Miller, had moved to Jefferson Township, they became members of St. Jacob's Church, west of Zion's Congregation (both churches, as most in the area, were German Reformed).
