Facts and Events
Aboard the ship "Mortonhouse", John Coultas, Master, from Deal, arrived in Pennsylvania on August 24, 1728:
Jacob Brunner (ship records only list head of family)
- Johann Jacob Brunner was the first to arrive in America. He had married in 1725 Maria Barbara Sturm, the daughter of Christian Sturm. One son, Johann Peter Brunner, had been born to this couple in 1726. Early in 1728, perhaps as advance agents for the larger emigration which was to follow in the next year, Jacob Brunner and his small family, together with his wife's brother Jacob Sturm, set forth for America. From Rotterdam aboard the ship "Mortonhouse," they sailed to Deal in England and from that place left on 15 Jun 1728 for Philadelphia. Together with Johan Jost Schmidt, Johann Peter Molich and other familiar names, they arrived at Philadelphia on 23 Aug 1728. Their group of 200 souls constituted the sixth list of arrivals in the long array of over 500 such lists which followed over the next 80 years. Johann Jacob vonBruner was sent to America by his father Joseph. Along with Jacob came his wife, Barbara, and their two children, Peter and George Michael. They sailed on the ship "Mortonhouse" that arrived in Philadelphia, PA on August 23, 1728. He took the "Oath of Allegiance to Maryland" on May 3, 1740.
