Joab Morris: Now an extensive property holder and successful shoe merchant of Poca, he became a resident of Putnam County, West Virginia in 1874. His birth was in Wetzel County, when that county was part of Virginia, November 10, 1850. His mother and father are George and Frances (Johnson) Morris, who make their home in Mason County, this state. In Poca, April 8, 1875, the Rev. James Harmon united in marriage Joab Morris and May Mildred Lanham, and the children of their marriage are four: Hattie, born January 18, 1876; Frederick Hunter, August 9, 1878; Deceased: Loma Rebecca, June 9, 1880; Samuel Herbert, born July 22, 1881. Mary, wife of Joab Morris was born in the county in 1857, adaughter of Thomas Jefferson and Maria McLaughlin Lanham. Her father was killed instantly killed by falling from a bridge across the Poca River, June 21,1879. Poca, Putnam County is Mr. Morris' postoffice (sic) address. A hand written note at the bottom of this page says: "Note that the above biography was written in 1883. I have copied it just as I found it." He was married to Mary Mildred Lanham (daughter of Thomas Lanham and Maria McLaughlin). Mary Mildred Lanham(20) was born in 1857.
