Jerusha H. Conkling, daughter of David and Freelove (Martin) Conkling was born in Cincinnati (Hamilton County), Ohio on 3 March 1830. On 30 May 1850 she married George B. Sieg in Cincinnati. The name of George and Jerusha is usually spelled as Seig. A Hamilton County Ohio deed dated 28 July 1859 shows that her brother, H.M. Conklin sold land to Jerusha H. Seig of Wayne County, Indiana. This land was part of the estate of her father. By 1870 Jerusha and her children were living in San Jose (Santa Clara County), California. The 1880 census shows Jerusha as the head of a household in San Jose. Living with her is daughter, Mollie, her daughter, Emma Cutler and Emma’s son. Jerusha owned a boarding house at 37 - 8th street from 1889 until her death on May 14, 1900.
