Oct. 24, 1801; … Very little is known of Jeremiah Shumway beyond the facts that he was born in Boxford, Mass.; that he removed to Oxford in 1713 with his father, who became one of the pioneer settlers of the town; a Muster Roll (Mass. Records at Boston) of Capt. John Learned's Company, Feb. 17, 1757, has the name of Jeremiah Shumway from Oxford, Corporal, Sep. 24. This connects him with the French and Indian War."
