Having died intestate, a letter of administration was issued to “Arminda Writer of the Town of Mount Hope, in the County of Orange, the widow, and Lewis Writer, of the said Town of Mount Hope, a son of Jasper A. Writer late of the Town of Mount Hope aforesaid, deceased.” It was issued by James W. Fowler, at Goshen, on 14 May 1855.
