Facts and Events
Buried in Downing Cemetery, Comanche County, Texas. 1 Our information on Jamie comes from his descendants. His daughter Madge Eurillah says that he was born on Peach Tree St in Atlanta. At least part of this street is apparently a major financial district in 1994. He is listed at age 3 in the Dalton Whitfield Co Ga 1860 census. He would have been 8 at the time of his mother's death & 17 at the time of his father's marriage to Louisa Catherine in Rome Ga. In James Lawrence's diary of Nov 12 1866, JL mentions dreaming of see ing Willie, Johnny & Lee; since he said on the entry of Nov 7 that all of his children except Sissie were now with him why was he dream- ing of seeing his sons? Of course Willie may not be Jamie. Our information from Jamie's descendants tells us that he is buried in Downing Cemetery in Tx, which apparently is near DeLeon in Comanche Co. but Downing is not listed in the 1973 atlas. The 1910 census for Comanche Co Tx shows James W Woozencraft, 52,born in Ga with wife Roberta N born Ga age 48 with children Richard O born Ala age 16 & daughter Urilla born Ala age 10. 1880 Census for Fish Creek, 1074th District of Polk Co Ga,(near Rock- mart) lists J W Wozencraft age 22 born Ga a sawmill hand having worked 10 months out of the year with wife RN age 20 from Ga, son LL age 3 & daughter ED (Emma Dura) age 1.
