  4. Source:Eaton, Lilley. Genealogical History of the Town of Reading, Mass, p. 127, wrongly identifies James as a child of Family:John Woodward and Hephzibah Burnap (1). This is apparently an assumption based on the marriage date, but is wrong. Not only is there no birth record for any child named James for this couple, there is no son named James in the probate of the father (Middlesex Case 25591). The probate of the man who died in 1779 names the children, showing that it was he that married Rebecca, and the age on the death record connects him to the birth in 1706, despite the marriage so late in life. No other children are named, so there is no evidence of an earlier marriage, nor has any suitable marriage record been found, nor a death record of a first wife, but it could be that further research could show that Rebecca was James second wife?
