Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA
Acquisition of Land from Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants:
- P-337: Deed 15 June 1754 to James Warden of Augusta County, 330 acres between Andrew Viney & Luke Collins on Lost River of Cacapehon in then Augusta now Hampshire County as by survey by Mr. George Washington 16 June 1750. Deed is lost and was not recorded. James Warden has authorized Mr. Peter Hog Att'y at Law to convey his Right & Title to John Bare of Augusta County by letter of 7 Nov. 1772 recorded in County Court of Hampshire. Adjoining Luke Collins, Andrew Viney. 15 Mar. 1775. [Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants, 1742-1775, Vol. 2, Gertrude E. Gray, pg. 229]. (Note: the "Lost River of Cacapon" is a tributary of the Potomac River).

- Then Surveyd for James Warden the Vacant Land situate in Augusta County & between ye Lines of Andrew Viney & Luke Collins on the Lost River & bounded as followeth beg: at 3 white Oaks amongst Piney Hills Luke Collins's Corner & run thence with his Line S° 55° E' Three hundd Poles to two Mountain Burches & a Gum on a steep Moun. side thence S° 35 W One hundd & Seventy Six Pole to a Large white Pine & three Lynn Trees growing from one Stump And" Vineys Corner thence with his Line N° 55 W Three hundd Poles to three white Oaks in amongst ye Mountains another of V.
