[later Chandlerville], Cass Co., Illinois, James Shankland is 42, a farmer from Kentucky (parents Kentucky). His sons are Benton, 18; Layfayett 15; and Martin, 10 -- all born Illinois, father Kentucky, mother Illinois. {NARA T9-0178, p.654b} James' brother Benjamin is also in this town. In the 1900 census for Oregon, Cass Co., Illinois, James Shankland is 61, born Nov 1838 in Kentucky (parents Kentucky), married 19 years, farmer. Wife Lyda is 40, born Aug 1859 in Illinois (father Tennessee, mother Kentucky) with 4 of 4 children living. Children are Ellsworth 17 born Sept 1882, farm laborer; Ross 16 born June 1884 farm laborer; Adrian 12 b. Nov 1887; and Howard 7 b.
