ames Robertson was born 1759 in Albemarle County, Virginia. In the fall of 1779, the 20 year old James accompanied his father James Sr. and brother Mathew to present day Garrard County Kentucky. The Robertson brothers were among a North Carolina militia whom responded to the Kentuckians' call for aid. In the winter of 1779, James arrived at Paint Lick Creek located deep in the Kentucky wilderness. The following spring, the brothers, along with their father, volunteered to serve with the Kentucky militia army under Captain John Kennedy, a part of Colonel Benjamin Logan's Regiment. James assisted with building a fort called Kennedy Station, located in present day Garrard County. James spent three long years guarding and defending said fort. As a private, James was called upon to observe Indian activity. When the Indians terrorized the local settlers, the Kennedy Station militia was ordered to retake any prisoners or property.
