James Pocknall (1812 - 1874), son of Thomas/Ann, married Sarah Rowles. They are said to have lived at Five Wents, and later Layden Hatch, although they do not appear on Census records for these places. They were assisted emigrants to Australia, leaving from Southampton on the ship Gilmore, arriving in Sydney on 18/10/1855. Shipping records show that they had 5 children with them. James (labourer), Sarah & son John could read and write, Elizabeth and William could read only, and the two youngest, Mary and Isabella could neither read nor write. The NSW line descends from James and Sarah, who took up land, cleared it and became farmers in the Bathurst/Molong area of NSW. John died in Ryde at age 18. Elizabeth married John Johnson. William married Lydia Kefford. Mary died at age 17 in Bathurst. Isabella married Robert Hardwick.
