In the name of God Amen. I, James Moore of the County of Jefferson and State of Tennessee being weak in body but of sound mind and disposing memory for which I thank God and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life and being desirous to dispose of all such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with, I do hereby make my last Will and Testament in manner and form following.
First I give to my son Robert Moore the plantation that I now live on together with all my farming utensels of every discription and one mare colt.
Second. I desire that all the residue of my property be sold and out of the money arising therefrom all my just debts be paid and my funeral expences paid and residue to be divided amongst my children hereafter named, my Daughters Peggy Howard and Fanny Howard my sons John, Robert and Andrew Moore, and lastly I do hereby constitute my son James Moore of Hawkins County Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all other or former Wills or Testaments by me heretofore made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Twenteth day of July one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven.

Records in Botetourt Co., VA

1783: Captain Mill's Company of Militia included: James Moore [9 horses, 15 cattle], John Moore [4 horses, 15 cattle]. Captain Mill’a Company was made up of men about the lower half of Looney’s Mill Creek and Back Creek extending as far west as James Moore’s and Thomas Row1and’s. [Kegley's Virginia Frontier, pg. 418].
Botetourt County, VA Marriage Record: Alderson, Thomas and Martha Moore, dau. [of] James Moore. Thomas son of Curtis Alderson - July 13, 1789. [Worrell, Anne Lowry. Early marriages, wills, and some Revolutionary War records, Botetourt County, Virginia. (Baltimore [Maryland]: Genealogical Pub. Co., c1976), pg. 3]. [Note: Martha is not named in the will of James Moore, so she likely died prior to the writing of his will in 1828. She appears to be a child of James Moore's first marriage].
July 14, 1789, Patrick Lockhart, Philip Spikart, James Moore and Benjamin Peck are appointed to view a way proposed for a wagon road from the Court house to Carper’s Mill.

    On 10 Nov 1779 James Moore, Jr. [hereafter known as James (II)] was granted 130 acres on Looney Creek being on the waters of James River in Botetourt County, VA (Virginia Land Office Patents, Book B, 1779-1780, p. 23)(Reel 43)(Sold 10 Jun 1800).

    In 1780 he inherited 1/2 of 350 acres on Looney Creek from his father, James, Sr. (Botetourt County, VA: Will Book A, p. 120). On 22 Oct 1790, James Moore Jr. executor & administrator of James Moore Sr. sold 16 acres on Looney's creek, being a part of James Moore Sr's deceased Old Tract (Botetourt Deed Book 4, p. 265)

    The 1785 Botetourt Co. VA Enumeration, page 8, lists the following familiar families as being in John May's District and living in close proximinity:

    Martha Wood

    Grant to James Moore and James Anderson, 16 June 1794.
    200 acres on the waters of Back Creek a branch of Looneys Creek a branch of James River, adjoining the lands of Graybill, and Beuram.

    On 4 Aug 1794 James and his wife Elizabeth sold another part of the 350 acres (15 acres) to Nicholas Carper. (Botetourt Deed Book 5, p.83-84)

    James and Elizabeth sold their land on Looney's creek prior to moving to Jefferson Co. TN. by the two deeds below.
