Notes

James McAvoy does not seem to appear in either the 1840 or 1850 U.S. Census records. His wife Nancy is listed in the 1850 Census living with her son James McAvoy in Nicholas County, West Virginia [although she was missed on the Ancestry.com transcription since she was listed on the following page of the census record], so it is fairly certain that James died prior to that year, and likely prior to 1840 unless he was missed by the census takers.
