John: I have written yo the town historian of Lysander in an attempt to get more information on James H. and John H. Lamson. My experience with town historians and town clerks in the past have been notable failures so I'll have to wait and see on that. The dates I gave you before are all I have and all firm. Here is everything else I have on James H. On june 25, 1850 he succeeded his father as postmaster of Lysander and served until October 22, 1852. In 1853 his father's real estate was sold at auction with the proceeds going to creditors. John H. had owned a "railroad hotel". I have always assumed this was not good news for James H. In the 1855 State census James H. is still living with his family in Lysander. After that I have no firm information on James H. I have a date of death of 1862 for James. However this is undocumented. It came from a greataunt who was a school teacher, member of the DAR, who spent a lot of time and travel doing genealogy. Regardless, it is still without documentation. As to his wife, Lucretia Jane Paine, I found her living with her son in law by 1870. I am going to have to check the 1865 State census to see if I can find her. She lived with her son in law and his wife (Mary Louisa Lamson Wilburn) until her death in 1907 in Rochester NY. Could these two James be the same person? 'My' James would have been 36 in1865 and 48 in 1877 so I guess it's possible. It would make a wild story! Do you have any info that fits, or contradicts, this? If I learn more I will let you know. Tom

Hello John:   A researcher at the McLeod County Historical Society in Hutchinson finished searching the Hutchinson Enterprise for the years 1876-1877 for me.  She found no Lamson names.  This is the earliest newspaper they have.   However, I did find in our rather limited Hutchinson Township records of 1856-1871, the name J. H. Lamson in the "Orders Issued" list.  It is dated Feb. 19 but doesn't state the year.  It is listed as No. 42 with the amount as $4.50.  I really don't know what "Orders Issued" is, but I am guessing that he did some work for the Township of Hutchinson,  As I told you previously, Hutchinson Township is located directly below Collinwood township but is in McLeod County, not Meeker County.

U.S. Census > 1850 United States Federal Census > New York > Onondaga > Lysander Shown as Hartley Lamson w/wife Lucretia and son William (one year).

I also found in The Meeker County News, Litchfield, Minnesota, the following item:  Collinwood - Jan. 26, 1871, J. H. Lampson Wagon Shop was advertised.   I'm afriad I will have to close this file now, since I feel I have covered as many of the areas as I could.  If I ever come across that name again, I'm sure I will remember it and willl let you know if I find anything else.   Jeanette Servin, Researcher for Dassel Area Historical Society
