84. James Kirkpatrick was born about 1771 in York Co., South Carolina. He died on 19 Apr 1845 in Glasgow, Jefferson Co., Iowa. He was buried in Gilmer Cemetery, Glasgow, Jefferson Co., Iowa. James Kirkpatrick. We add here another probable child of Thomas Kirkpa trick. This family has been reconstructed from records in the will of J ames Kirkpatrick, Jefferson County, Iowa, dated 31 March 1845 and from o ther papers. This James was married three times. His first wife's nam e is unknown. He married secondly in Madison County, Illinois, on 22 S eptember 1814, Electa Meacham. His third marriage was on 26 Sep 1819 i n Madison County, Illinois, to Leanah (or Deaniah) Hart.

James was born before 1778 in York or Chester County, South Carolina. H e was in Madison County, Illinois very early, at least by 1805, because h e signed a petition from residents of Illinois, dated 2 December 1805 ( Territorial Papers of the united States, Vol. 7). He was then living n ear his cousins Thomas, Francis and John Kirkpatrick in the neighborhoo d of what is now Edwardsville, Illinois. He served in the war of 1812 a s an ensign in Capt. Samuel Judy's Company, made up mostly of Madison C ounty men. In 1820 he sold his Madison County land to Josias Randle. A bout 1818 he bought land in Bond County, Illinois, near Greenville, and a bout 1824 he moved to Sangamon County. About 1839, James and his brothe r John sold their property in Sangamon County and moved to Jefferson Co unty, Iowa. His wife Leanah was living in 1840 but is not mentioned in h is will, so she probably died before 1845. He died in Jefferson County , IA, 19 April 1845

He had eight children in total, five from his first marriage and three f rom the second marriage with Leanah.
