Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. : Hamilton, James, born 1/15/1757 in Orange County, Virginia; moved abt. age 15 to Amherst County, Virginia, where he resided during Revolutionary War; entered service there; moved several years after Revolutionary War to Augusta County, Virginia, for 5 years where married, thence to Botetourt County, Virginia, for abt. 3 years, thence to Wythe County, Virginia, for abt. 8 years, thence abt. 1813 to Russell County, Kentucky; granted Pension 1833 in Lee County, Virginia, 1833; referred then to eldest daughter Mrs. Dougherty age 55; moved late in 1833 to McMinn County, Tennessee; when wife dec'd & he wanted to reside near children; died 2/6/1844, survived by only 1 child Wyatt.
