James Ellis was one of the Early Settlers of Augusta County, Virginia __________________________ [edit] Information on James EllisJames Ellis came to the Augusta/Greenbrier County, Virginia area as a young man. He served in the Revolutionary War as a scout and spy in Greenbrier County, in the area around Cook's Fort. James Ellis Sr. had moved to Kanawha County, and built a cabin prior to 1799. He also had a piece of property on New River in 1790 just below Bluestone. He divorced Ruth Nevitt 1788, she became an indentured servant to Lanty Graham. She married Nicholas Null in 1790,and they left Greenbrier Co., in 1792. Mary, Elizabeth, Enos, and James Jr., were left in Monroe Co., in the care of Owen Ellis.
