Jacob Lamb (1798-1847) and Elizabeth Adams (about 1799-about 1831)

Jacob Lamb was born October 15, 1798. He was the son of John Lamb (who served in the American Revolution) and Elizabeth Kiplinger. John’s parents came to America from Germany. Johann Konradt Lahm and his wife Maria Catharina Creitz arrived in Pennsylvania in 1741. They were 22 and 23 years old, and had one child born in Germany. Elizabeth’s parents Phillip Kublinger and Apollonia Ein were born in Germany but I haven’t found arrival records.

Elizabeth Adams was born about 1799, probably in Ohio. Her parents are unknown.

Jacob and Elizabeth married on April 16, 1819 in Harrison County, Ohio. They would have 8 children. (I found marriage records for Jacob Lamb in this book available through Google Books: Historical Collections of Harrison County, in the state of Ohio.)

On the 1820 US Census, Jacob was head of a household in Nottingham, Harrison County, Ohio. There were 3 in the household: 1 male under age 10; 1 male aged 16-25 (Jacob was 22); 1 female aged 16-25 (Elizabeth was about 19).

On the 1830 US Census, Jacob was head of a household in Moorefield, Harrison County, Ohio. There were 9 in the household: 3 males under age 5; 2 males aged 5-9; 1 male aged 10-14; 1 male aged 30-39 (Jacob was 32); 1 female aged 5-9; 1 female aged 20-29 (Elizabeth was 29). Elizabeth likely died in 1831.

Jacob married Mary Williams on February 2, 1832 in Harrison County, Ohio. They would have 5 children before Mary died in about 1839. (after the death of his mother, son Jacob was given over to Hiram James, who became his guardian.

On the 1840 US Census, Jacob was head of a household in Clay, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. There were 11 in the household: 1 male under age 5; 3 males aged 10-14; 2 males aged 15-19; 1 male aged 40-49; 1 female under age 5; 2 females aged 5-9; 1 female aged 10-14.

Jacob married Mary Ann Kail Barnhouse, who was widowed in 1840, and they had 2 children. Jacob died February 6, 1847 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. His will confirms the children.

The children of Jacob Lamb and Elizabeth Adams:

John Lamb – John was born about 1820 in Harrison County, Ohio. He married Elizabeth Jane James in about 1844. They had at least 3 children. The last record I have of him is the 1850 US Census when he lived in Clay, Tuscarawas County, Ohio.

Adams Lamb – Adams was born in January of 1821 in Harrison County, Ohio. He married Margaret Parrish in about 1843 and they had 6 children. Adams is found a widower on the 1860 US Census, with a 2 month old daughter, so I wonder if Margaret died in childbirth. Adams married Lavina M. Ish, a widow with 4 children, around 1865. He died sometime after the 1910 US Census, when he’d been widowed.

Hannah Lamb – Hannah was born in about 1822 in Harrison County, Ohio. She married Hiram James in about 1845 and they had 4 children. They farmed in Tuscarawas County, Ohio and Bureau County, Illinois. She is last found on the 1885 Iowa State Census living in Marshalltown, Iowa, widowed and living with son Harry.

George B. Lamb – George was born about 1825 in Harrison County, Ohio. He married Hester. They had at least 4 children, and buried 3 of them in 1854. George died September 5, 1858 in Allen County, Ohio. His Find A Grave memorial is here.

Hiram Lamb – Hiram is Todd’s 3X Great Grandfather. Read about him here.

Lawrence Lamb – Lawrence was born in 1828 in Harrison County, Ohio. He married Adaline Emma Wilkins on April 3, 1850 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. They had 5 children. He died 1914.

Alexander Lamb – Alexander was born about 1830 in Harrison County, Ohio. He died prior to his father’s will in February 1847.

Elizabeth Lamb – Elizabeth was born about 1831 in Harrison County, Ohio. She died prior to her father’s will in February 1847.
