The Wabash Railroad bought 7 acres from Ithamar's son, Rollin, and they built a town named, Eddy, which is still on the map. The Baptists moved Jones' Chapel a distance of 2 miles to Eddy. BURIAL: Row 6 DEATH: Following is taken from the obituary of Ithamar Eddy in a local paper: "Ithamar was born in Wayne County, Ohio, January 28, 1828; died at his home, four miles west of Rome City, January 28, 1890. He was a student of nature and reasoned cause to effect. He was bound to no party, creed, or sect. He analyzed all things and held fast to the things he held to be right. He believed practice was better than preaching. He was an affectionate husband and a generous father. He was an honest man." (People called him an atheist; he called himsef a free thinker) DEATH: Probate papers filed in Noble County, Indiana 27 Feb 1890: Ch: Emmett, Rollin, Reuben L., Walter C., Ulysses H., Ithamar I., Roberta J. Eddy, Sally Anny Jones Ithamar and Elizabeth were living in Wawaka, Noble County in the 1870 census. OBITUARY: Eddy Ithamer, 62, died at his home on the Hawpatch Tuesday four miles west of Rome City on Jan. 28, 1890. A brother of Harrison Eddy, he was born in Wayne County, Ohio, Jan. 28, 1828, moved to Noble county in 1845, married Elizabeth Hite at the age of 25 and settled on a farm one mile north of Avilla. Here he resided until 1865, when he moved to the farm where he died. His death was due to congestion of the lungs, which he contracted at the funeral of his brother, whose death we noted last week.
