SEARCH FOR IRA BYARS Where & when did Ira Byars die?

Most researchers say he died in Jackson County, Illinois; no date, no gravestone, no source

The obituary of Irijah Byars (Portland, Oregon 1899) says that he moved to Iowa with his parents in 1851. Irijah's biographical sketch in 'Clark County Pioneers' says the same and that he met Jefferson Huff while living in Madison Co., Illinois. In 'Portland, It's History and Builders' Vol 2 by Joseph Gaston pg 602 it says that "Mr. [Irijah] Byars ... when 21 years of age went to Madison County, Illinois where he was living when hired by Mr. Huff to come west with the family." (In 1850 Jefferson Huff was in Polk Co., IA and left for Oregon from there.) There is a Madison Co., Iowa near Polk Co, Iowa. However Madison Co., Illinois is near St. Louis and St. Louis was a jumping off place for the Oregon Trail. This could be where Irijah was hired by Jefferson Huff to go west. I don't think Jefferson Huff ever lived in Madison Co., Illinois and I'm doubting that Ira & Mariah Byars went there at all.

Madison Co., IL: see FHL catalog, a bit complicated, but they have films

1860: Census FIND, living? Where are other family members, Zithri, Zeri & Isaac Dan? Irijah is in Oregon. Ira would have been about 64.
