Ida attended Fairfax High School and graduated from Hollywood High School in 1931 using the name Hopewell, although she was never adopted by her stepfather. She attended UCLA for a time but soon dropped out and went to Woodbury Business College where she completed the Secretarial Course.

She had a tough time making it on her own as a single mother after her first marriage failed. For a time, she moved back with her parents and nursed her mother through a serious illness, but they did not get along well at times. She was working as a waitress at the time she met Harry Stafford.

Upon her marriage to Harry, she stayed home but did his business books. After the family's return from Canada in 1950, she went back to work as a Stenograher. Her most notable jobs were working on the ICBM program and for the Federal Aviation Agency. She retired in 1971 following breast cancer surgery.

Remission of Breast Cancer failed following an incomplete recovery from a stroke complicated by diabetes and high blood pressure.
