Lead Daily Call newspaper, August 9, 1917 - "Hugh Moye, aged 60 years, a veteran and highly respected resident of Lead, passed quietly away at his home at 7 o'clock last evening. All the surviving members of his family, his wife and three sons, were with him when the end came. Three years ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis, from which he appeared to make an almost complete recovery, but nine months later another stroke came and from the effects of this he suffered until his death, the immediate cause of which was the third stroke. For upwards of five months before his death he was deprived of the power of speech. Deceased was born in Ireland and came to this country when 12 years old, settling in Hazelton. Thirty-five years ago he came to the Black Hills, locating in Lead and this has been his home practically all the time since. Until five years ago he remained in the employ of the Homestake company, which he entered on his arrival here. He is survived by his wife and three sons, Eugene, John and Frank Moye, all of Lead. Mrs. Dan Scanlon of this city is a sister of deceased. Funeral services will take place at St. Patrick's Cathedral Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in the Catholic cemetery, South Lead."
