Eugene Moye 1882 - 1918 PVT CO. G 11TH DEPOT BTLN Lawrence County death records note that he died on October 14, 1918; recorded in Book 1, Page 85. Deadwood Daily Pioneer-Times newspaper, October 17,1918 - "Died at Leavenworth. Eugene Moye, son of the late Hugh Moye, of Lead, died at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. A message announcing his death was received by his brother John Moye of Lead. The news of his serious illness reached his relatives there Sunday and his brother Frank left for Fort Leavenworth when a message saying he had but a few hours to live reached Lead Monday. Deceased, who had worked for the Homestake company for a number of years, enlisted two months ago and went to Fort Leavenworth from Jefferson barracks. He expected to leave shortly for overseas and probably would have been on the way now, had not influenza and pneumonia overtaken him." "In the World War 1917-1918-1919" states that "Eugene A. Moye died while serving in the U.S. Army as a private in the 15th Recruit Company, Signal Corps. Private Moye entered service from Lead, S.D." Image Gallery
