(First) - Montgomery, Hugh - 1 free white male 16 + including heads of household; 2 free while males -16; 3 f ree white females including heads of households. 1794 oaths of allegiance (following the Whiskey Rebellion) , Washington Co PA Smith township Robert, Samuel and John Marquis (but a GRANT m Robert Marqu is) John and Hugh Montgomery [likely a different set of Montgom erys, if ours in First Moon for 1790 census] Samuel Marquis also lived near to Burgettstown, and John al so lived in the same neighborhood. If these were first cous ins of John and Rev. Thomas Marquis, as they claimed, Willi am Marquis, who came from Ireland in 1720, must have left o ther children in Ireland, who came to America at a later pe riod; and this appears most likely to be the case as all th ese parties came from near Winchester, Va., to this county.
