I have added Jo shua to this family based on the headstone found in the Wat ts Cemetery which reads: son of George and Elizabeth land patent Decatur Co IN 1824 James Howard and George Mont gomery of Butler Co OH from William Jordan Jan 1999: >In 1821, George Montgomery and two Gageby brothers signe d on with a >Colonel Hendricks for a surveying trek through Indiana. Th is group was >hired to map the part of Indiana that became known as Fran klin and >Decatur counties and was initiated in Westmoreland County , Pennsylvania. >One of the major towns in the county was Greensburg. > >They set up a base of operations that consisted of severa l log cabins, >that became a trading post for other `explorers` and Colon el Hendricks >named the town Greensburg after his town back in Pennsylva nia. > >Here are some land deed record numbers for the Montgomer y family in >Decatur county: >Elizabeth Mont., wife of Hugh Jr ----------- C209 >George Mont. ---------------- B221 >Henry Mont. ---------------- B 39 >Henry & Mary Mont ---------------- A249 >Hugh Mont -------------------- A 95 >Hugh, George, & Hugh Jr Mont ------------------- A260 >Hugh & Sally Mont ------------------ C442 >Michael Mont -------------- A255 >Michael & Ann Francis Mont ---------------- B303 >Robert Mont ---------------- B270 >Robert Mont ---------------- C190 >Thomas, Robert, Michael, George Mont ----------------B210 >Thomas Mont ------------------- C618 >Thomas & Elizabeth Mont ------------ B370 >>A lot of the land was apparently done at similar times an d together to >help younger members of the family qualify for the deeds . Maybe we can trade. I do n ot have the >family tree in one of those special internet files where w e can >automatically transfer, but if a plain old paper swap is O K, let me >know. > >My address is: > >William Jordan >668 Blackstone Drive >Myrtle Beach, SC 29579 > > > From: Van Tiger, tiger@cnsinternet.com To: emmich@colorado.net Dear Naomi: You did not give me a time line so maybe, in la ter years, some of the Montgomery wandered up in the northe rn counties, but none of the early years that I know about , you give no names so I`m somewhat lost. I have Mary Montg omery Grant (Gratz) and her family but little of the rest o f them. I know that Alexander died down in southern Iowa an d two of his sons (my memory tells me) Mahaska County, have n`t worked on that line for so long. Hugh and Eve`s Childre n were all born in Westmoreland and Beaver County, Pa. wen t to Butler Co. Ohio about 1810 and to Indiana abt 1822. George was with the surveyors in 20-21. The Robertsons buri ed by Hugh are relation to Michael`s wife and heirs are i n Wisconsin. Have miles of info but if you have something o n Shelby Co., Would like to take a look! You know my work i s not written in cement and the day it is I`ll quit!!!! Since I don`t know your connections, don`t no what I`d hav e that you may like to share, but willing to try .......... Marion === 13 July 2003 William Donohue I have seen your information on Ancestry.com and I believ e my Family Tree and your cross. I have a Hugh Montgomery and Eva Hartmann m arried in August 1784. They had a son George Montgomery born April 2, 1801 i n Pennsylvania. George married a Unknown Elizabeth born in 1807 in Indiana . George and Elizabeth had a daughter Eva Montgomery born May 17th, 183 3 in Indiana. Eva married Ira G. Wilson on October 12, 1850 in Linn County Io wa. They had a daughter (a twin) by the name of George-Anna Wilson born Ju ne 1858 in Iowa. George-Anna married James Bittle on March 15, 1885 in Mario n, Iowa. They had a daughter Bernice who married a Ralph Daniel McSweene y July 2, 1923 in perhaps Waterloo, Iowa. Their daughter is my mother-in-law. In your research you have information on George Montgomer y having married Elizabeth Jackson and they had four sons. Any chance that t hey also had a daughter Eva born in 1833?? Regards, William Donahue who also sends: 1840 Decatur County Indiana Federal Censu s and guess what I found. One male 40 under 50, one male un der 5: 3 females 5 under 10 and one female 30 under 40.
