Homer was a school teacher, first in one room schools, then he taught at Fannin County High School in Morganton and retired from the Fannin County School system. He met his wife when he was her teacher. He farmed and had a country store on Loving Road. When he and Leslie married, they moved in with his parents on Loving Road near New Hope Baptist Church. He was still living at the same place, in the same house when he died.
