Facts and Events
Hezekiah Wade was one of the Early Settlers of Augusta County, Virginia __________________________ [edit] Advisory on ParentageSome accounts, including the published work "The Wade Family, Monongalia County, Virginia, now West Virginia", by Franklin Marion Brand, claim that the father of this Hezekiah Wade was George Wade (abt. 1720-1814) of Frederick County, Maryland and Monongalia County, [West] Virginia, but this is directly contradicted by the statement of Hezekiah Wade in his Revolutionary War Service Pension Application that his father was Joseph Wade that was killed by Indians in 1779 at Fort Stradler [Statler] near Dunkard's Creek in Monongalia County. Hezekiah and George Wade are likely closely related, but the direct statement of Hezekiah and corroborating sources of his father Joseph's demise at the hands of Indians at Fort Statler in 1778/9 appear to be conclusive in establishing Joseph Wade as Hezekiah's father.
