Baugh, Henry, entered service in Wythe County (then Montgomery County), Virginia; born 4/4/1760 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; moved to Pulaski County, Kentucky, 1808, where granted Pension in 1832; died 10/9/1836; married 1786 (license 3/28/1786) to Margaret Phillipi, Montgomery County, Virginia; widow granted Pension abt. age 72 in Pulaski County, Kentucky, 1841; 3rd child Adam age 50 there in 1841.     State of Kentucky, County of Pulaski Sct.
    On this 20 day of November 1832 personally appeared before the County Court of the County of
    Pulaski, being a Court of Record, Established by the Constitution and laws of Kentucky, Henry Baugh, a resident of said County of Pulaski, and State of Kentucky, aged Seventy years, who being first duly sworn, according to law, doth on his Oath make the following Declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June 7 1832.
    That he entered the Service of the United States During the Revolutionary war under the following named officers, and served as herein stated Viz – a Soldier in the Militia Service, in the State of Virginia, two three months tours, 1 . he the said Henry Baugh Volunteered in the now County of Wythe & State of Virginia [formed in 1790 from Montgomery and Grayson counties], his then place of residence, in the month of April, in the year 1775 in Captain Robert Davises [Robert Davis’s] Company. Coloniel William Christy [Col. William Christian]. General William Preston. all of the now County of Wythe & State of Virginia aforesaid [sic: all of Montgomery County], and left the same at the end of three months, and two weeks, serving two weeks over and above the time he Volunteered to serve marching from the s’d. now Wythe County Virginia through the State of North Carolina, was Station at Middle Tenn, in said State of North Carolina, and was there Discharged by my Gen’l. William Preston, after servicing as above stated, but was furnished with no written Discharge, during my servitude aforesaid, Maj’r. William Cloyed, of the Regular Army [sic: Maj. Joseph Cloyd of the Militia] frequently visited the Troops to which I belonged, as above Described. upon being Discharged I returned home to my residence in Wythe County. – He also states that in the year 1776 [sic] he volunteered for his second tour, in the service of the United States in the Revolutionary war in the said now County Wythe & State of Virginia on the 10 day of November of that year, under Captain Henry Francis, Maj’r. William Cloyd all of the County & State afores’d. (Virginia) marching through the State of North Carolina, to the Moravian Towns [Salem, Bethabara, and Bethania], was at the battle or scurmish at the Shallow ford on the Atkin River [sic: Shallow Ford on Yadkin River, 14 Oct 1780] in the said State of North Carolina against the British & Tories, and at the Moravian Towns afores’d. was discharged, by said Maj’r. William Cloyed, receiving a verbal discharge, and then together with the troops or company returned home to my residence in the afores’d. now County of Wythe & State of Virginia*
    He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present, and declares his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any State

    1 . He states he was born in the State of Pensylvania and County of Lancaster on the 4 day of April in the year 17__
    2 that he has a record of his age at his residence in said County of Pulaski.
    3 . that he was living in the now County of Wythe in the State of Virginia when he entered the service, where he continued to reside till the year 1808 when he removed and settled in Pulaski County Kentucky where he has lived ever since
    4 . that he volunteered into the service, and served as stated in his declaration
    5. there was no regular officers with the troops to which I belonged, but the troops during my first tour were frequently visited by Maj’r. William Cloyd of the regular army, and I belonged to the 3rd. Virginia Regiment of Militia as well the 1 as the 2 tour I served
    6. that he never rec’d. a written discharge, but was discharged at the expiration of his 1 . tour verbally by Gen’l. William Preston and at the expiration of his 2 . tour by Maj’r. William Cloyed, verbally.
    7 . He states, that Clinton Kelly, Clergyman, Samuel Kelly, John Kelly, & Samuel Hendrickson, all reside in this neighborhood of his present residence, and can testify as to his character for veracity, and their belief of his services as a soldier of the revolution.

    NOTE: On 25 June 1841 Margaret Baugh, 72, applied for a pension stating that she married Henry Baugh in Wythe County in 1786, and he died 9 Oct 1836. Her application was supported by Adam Baugh, 50, the son and third child of Margaret Baugh, whose maiden name was Philippe or Philippa. The file includes a copy of a bond signed in Montgomery County on 28 Mar 1786 by Henry Baugh and George Vaught for the marriage of Baugh to Margaret Phillippi. On 13 May 1843 Margaret Baugh’s age is said to be 74, and on 26 July 1844 it was said to be 65.
